IoT-based lift status monitoring with emergency push button integration enables real-time visibility, instant alerts, and faster response during faults or passenger emergencies in multi-storey facilities.
The Challenge
In a multi-storey facility where lifts play a critical role in daily movement of occupants, the absence of real-time operational visibility posed significant safety and response challenges. The client had no centralized way to monitor lift status such as running, stopped, fault, or power-related conditions. Any lift malfunction or unexpected stoppage was typically identified only through manual reporting, often after a delay. In emergency situations, passengers inside the lift had no direct and reliable mechanism to alert facility or maintenance teams, increasing the risk of panic and prolonged entrapment. The lack of an integrated emergency alert system and real-time monitoring made it difficult for operations teams to assess situations quickly, coordinate responses efficiently, and ensure passenger safety across multiple lifts within the facility.
Our Solution
Volkkommen Industries designed and implemented an IoT-based Lift Status Monitoring solution with a dedicated emergency push button integrated inside the lift cabin. The solution continuously monitors the operational status of the lift, capturing key conditions such as normal operation, idle state, fault occurrence, and power availability. In addition to automatic condition monitoring, an emergency push button was installed to allow passengers to manually trigger an alert whenever assistance is required. Once activated, the system immediately generates alerts and notifications, ensuring that facility and maintenance teams are informed without delay. All lift data and alerts are visualized through a centralized monitoring interface, providing real-time visibility of lift health and enabling faster decision-making and response coordination.
Key Results
The implementation delivered measurable improvements across operations, efficiency, and cost reduction:
The implementation significantly improved both safety and operational efficiency. Emergency situations inside the lift could now be identified instantly, either through automatic fault detection or manual alert activation by passengers. Response time from maintenance and facility teams was reduced, minimizing downtime and enhancing occupant safety. The centralized monitoring system provided clear visibility into lift performance, improving accountability and preventive action. Overall, the solution strengthened emergency preparedness, increased passenger confidence, and enabled more reliable lift operations through continuous, real-time monitoring.
